Srinagar, July 12: In a bid to address the long-standing problems and grievances faced by its citizens, the government of Jammu and Kashmir announced the establishment of a dedicated “Department of Public Grievances.” The move, sanctioned by the General Administration Department, signifies the administration’s commitment to effective grievance redressal and public welfare.
As per the official order issued by the General Administration Department, it reads that in pursuance of Entry 15 of the Second Schedule of Transaction of Business of the Government of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, notified vide Government Order No. 811-JK(GAD) of 2020, dated 01.09.2020, sanction is hereby accorded to the creation of “Department of Public Grievances”.
The Department of Public Grievances will play a crucial role in handling and resolving public grievances. It will oversee various initiatives, including the Lieutenant Governor’s Mulaqaat – a live public grievance hearing. Additionally, it will be responsible for managing the Jammu and Kashmir Integrated Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (JK-IGRAMS), monitoring the efficient disposal of grievances by administrative departments and subordinate offices, as well as ensuring the quality of grievance redressal. The department will also monitor and address grievances received through social media platforms.
The order further states that the Lieutenant Governor’s Grievance Cell will now be subsumed within the newly established Department of Public Grievances. The existing staff members from the Lieutenant Governor’s Grievance Cell, provided by the General Administration Department, will continue their services in the Department of Public Grievances until permanent staff appointments are made.
