Srinagar, Feb 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has granted the administrative approval of Rs 5 crore for the construction of additional accommodation at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kreeri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
“The administrative approval is hereby accorded to the execution of work, viz “Construction of Additional Accommodation for SDH Kreeri (2nd and 3rd floor) under UT Capex Budget at an estimated cost of Rs 5 Crore only,” said an order of the health department.
Officials said that the expansion was a long pending issue at the hospital and now the construction of additional accommodation will improve healthcare facilities in the area.
“The expansion is expected to enhance patient care by addressing space constraints and upgrading infrastructure,” said an official. Authorities have assured that the project will be completed in a timely manner to ensure better accessibility to quality healthcare services.
The initiative aims to decongest the hospital and enhance patient care with modern medical facilities. The underground floor will be designated for parking, the first floor for the OPD, and the second floor for the theatre block. Health officials said that earlier the first phase of construction added one floor to the hospital for Rs 1.5 crore, but additional funding was needed to make the building fully functional.
Locals of Kreeri expressed gratitude to government stating that the expansion will help serve more patients.
“This was the much-needed step. We are grateful to the government for taking the right step at the right time. Once the funds are utilised properly, the hospital will accommodate more patients and offer more facilities to the patients of Kreeri and its adjoining areas,” a group of locals from Kreeri said. They urged the executing agency to complete the project in time so that more patients would get benefits from the health care facilities available at the SDH. “There should be no delays in construction of the additional accommodation,” they said.
