Udhampur Dec 06: Red Ribbon Club, GCW Udhampur in collaboration with AIDS Control Society, Department of Health & Medical Education; and Higher Education Department, J&K under the aegis of IQAC of the college organised week-long activities to
commemorate World AIDS Day designated on Ist December every year.

The theme for World AIDS Day 2024 is ‘Take the rights path: My health, my right!’ The world can end AIDS-if everyone’s rights are protected, by inculcating among the general masses the gravity of the problem and heighten their level of awareness about HIV/AIDS/STI and other related issues and thus eliminate related myths and misconceptions.

The week-long activities commenced on 2nd Dec. under the able guidance of Dr. Nalini Pathania, Principal of the college.

An awareness rally which was formally flagged off by Dr. Pathania was taken out by the students with chart drawings in their hands-all showcasing the awareness message on AIDS Prevention and Control. The rally was taken out from the campus of GCW Udhampur, which passed through the main places of Battal Ballian Road and finally concluded at the college campus. More than 130 students of the college participated in the rally.

On 3rd December, a poster-making competition was organised in which an
impressive number of students from various streams participated with
great zeal and enthusiasm. The theme of the competition was to create
awareness about HIV/AIDS and to foster creativity and healthy
competition among the students. The posters were bold, visually
appealing and informative. They gave a pictorial representation of
HIV/AIDS contraction and care. Dr. Indu Khajuria (HOD Chemistry), Dr.
Monika Gupta, Prof. Parwinder Kour were amongst the judges of the
competition. The first prize was bagged by Rasha Devi while Divya and
Rutvi Gupta stood second and third respectively.

Following the poster-making competition, a Human Chain in the shape of
red ribbon symbol was formed by the students on Friday, 6th December
to conclude week-long activities undertaken for the observance of
World AIDS Day. All the activities were conducted and supervised by
the members of Red Ribbon Committee-Prof. Neha Gupta (Convener), Prof.
Pardeep Singh, Prof. Meenakshi Jamwal, Dr. Sarabjeet Kour Sudan, Prof.
Yash Kumar and Dr. Sanjay Kumar.
