Handwara, Oct 21: The non-local students from Government Medical College Handwara, along with local residents, organized a candlelight vigil at Main Chowk, Handwara, on Monday to protest against the recent killings in Gagangeer, Ganderbal.
The gathering was held in response to the tragic incident that has shaken the valley, and participants demanded an end to the bloodshed in Kashmir.
The protesters held banners with slogans such as “End the bloodshed in Kashmir,” “Stop innocent killings,” and “Stop doctors’ killings.” They expressed their deep anguish over the killing of the doctor and others.
Kafi Sharma, a second-year MBBS student and one of the protesters, told Rising Kashmir, “I have full faith in the local administration and the army to ensure our safety. This incident should not have happened, and it is making everyone’s lives harder. People are living in fear, but we are confident that the locals and the army can protect us,” she said.
The protestors also raised anti-Pakistan slogans, condemning the killings and calling for strict action against those responsible for the attack.
The candlelight vigil comes in the wake of a recent incident in Gagangeer, Ganderbal, where a doctor among seven persons were killed.
