In a devastating incident near Gagangeer Hung area of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, a Tavera vehicle carrying tourists met with an accident in which four persons died, two still missing, and two rescued with injuries.
The incident occurred when the Tavera vehicle plunged into the nallah Sindh after the driver lost control, causing eight tourists to be submerged in the water.
Police official said that at around 4:00 pm, a Taveracarrying nine passengers from Sonamarg towards Kangan skidded off the road at Gagangeer and plunged into the Sindh River.
On receiving the information, a coordinated rescue operation was launched quickly, led by SSP GanderbalSandeep Gupta, SHO P/S GundLateef Ali, SHO Sonamarg Turk Zahoor, SDRF Gund Component, 34 Assam Rifles, CRPF 118 Bn, Traffic Police, Tourist Police, APCO Company along with Machinery, DSP Operation Ganderbal, local volunteers, PHC Kullan, Sonamarg teams, TehsildarGund and Fire Department and other officials. This extensive response resulted in the recovery of two injured hikers who were immediately transferred to PHC Kullan and then to SKIMS Soura for advanced medical care.
During the ongoing rescue operation, the bodies of four tourists were fished out of the river, although, according to initial reports, the identity of two remained unknown. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle survived the accident.
Authorities continue efforts to recover the remaining missing person and submerged vehicle from the Sindh River. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing and details will be released once the rescue operation is completed.

LG grieves over loss of lives
Jammu, Apr28: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Sonamarg today.
In a condolence message, the Lt Governor said:
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Sonamarg, Ganderbal today. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. I have issued instructions to the District Administration to render all necessary assistance, as provided in rule, to the affected persons”.
