Kulgam, Aug 17: The authorities on Thursday sealed five diagnostic labs and three medical shops for flouting regulations in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district
The swift action followed the attention-grabbing video that prompted authorities to inspect the diagnostic labs and medical shops located near the district hospital in Kulgam.
As per the direction of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, a team led by Tehsildar Kulgam, Bilal Ahmad, swung into action to enforce medical rules and seal the erring establishments.
Tehsildar told Rising Kashmir that he along with a Drug Inspector and District Health Officer (DHO) from the health department conducted an inspection of several diagnostic and medical shops after the video went viral, alleging poor patient service.
“After the inspection, we found some centres violating essential medical norms and regulations, leading to their immediate closure on the spot,” he said, adding that the crackdown resulted in the sealing of five diagnostic testing labs and three medical shops near the district hospital.
Bilal said the role of the public is important and they need to check their healthcare choices. The people must verify the quality of the medicines they receive, he said.
“We will continue to monitor medical shops and labs on a weekly basis and work towards enhancing public services,” he said, adding that the chemists are being educated about safety protocols to ensure better services.
