Route lacks mobile connectivity, first aid booths despite connected to Anantnag with Kishtwar (NH244)
Anantnag, July 27: Eight people, including a policeman and five children, lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Sinthan-Kokernag route on Saturday. The incident occurred near Aarshan Hut, approximately 20 km from Daksum Naka.
According to Suheel Ahmad, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag, a Maruti Swift, bearing registration number JKO3H 9017, skidded off the road and fell 250 meters down the slope. The accident happened between 11:30 a.m. and noon.
The deceased have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Rather (45), his wife Afroza Akhtar (40), their three daughters Areeba Imtiyaz (12), Aniya Imtiyaz (10), and Abaan Imtiyaz (6); and Reshma (40), wife of Majid Ahmad, along with her two sons, Musaib Majid (16) and Mushail Majid (8). All were residents of Marwah Kishtwar.
Local authorities have urged the government to install mobile connectivity and establish first aid booths along the Sinthan Top route. “The road, part of National Highway 244 (NH244), connects Anantnag with Kishtwar and is a popular tourist destination. Improved connectivity is essential for the safety and convenience of travellers,” they said.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed grief over the tragic road accident in Daksum, Anantnag.
In a condolence message, the Lt Governor has said: “I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Daksum, Anantnag today. My thoughts and prayers are with bereaved family members during this hour of grief. I have issued instructions to the District Administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected family”.
