Jammu, Dec 1: Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk Jammu on Thursday organised a one-day seminar on “rights of women against sexual harassment at workplace” for all female faculty, staff and students of the college. The guest expert for the seminar was an eminent speaker Ms Shashi Thakur Dy Sp (Retd) Jammu and Kashmir Police. He is also a well-known name in law.
The seminar was inaugurated by Er Arun Bangotra, Principal Govt Polytechnic Jammu, who in his welcome address stressed on the fine line to be drawn at the workplace to prevent the occurrence of sexual harassment at the workplace. He said the institute has constituted a Committee for the Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Female Employees and Students (ICC) to create a safe and secure environment for females in the campus.
In her lecture, Ms Shashi Thakur explained the prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment cases. The seminar emphasised gender bias and other related issues at workplaces and various Dos and Don’ts for the prevention of such unwanted actions and behaviours.
During the question-answer session, the students shared and enquired the information about various related aspects. Ms Neena Dullo, Training and Placement Officer and Chairperson ICC proposed the Vote of Thanks. The event was coordinated by Er Sakshi Kapai, Lecturer, Er Vandana Chib and Ar Manu Rajput, members of ICC and Women Cell Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk, Jammu. All the female staff members and more than 150 girl students attended the seminar.
