Srinagar, Oct 21: The encroachment wing of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Friday said that they have prevented 90 percent of illegal construction in the city.
They said that hundreds of illegal structures have been demolished, several others have been sealed, and dozens of FIRs have been registered against repeat offenders.
The chief enforcement officer of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation told Rising Kashmir they have got full control over illegal construction in the city, adding that the concerned wing carries out regular inspections throughout the city to curb illegal constriction.
“The officer admitted that there would be some illegal construction in the city, but as soon as they receive the inputs on the same, they would start the process of its demolition.”
“At some points, there are some delays due to the intervention of the courts, but the department is following the court procedures and is demolishing the said structures after completing the court process .”
Earlier, the Srinagar municipal corporation mayor had alleged corruption in MC Srinagar and said a huge amount has been made by raising illegal construction at many locations in the city.
Taking strong note of the mayor’s allegation, the SMC said that action has been initiated against 32 employees and that the same has been forwarded to the anti-corruption bureau for further action.
Earlier, speaking to Rising Kashmir, Commissioner SMC Athar Amir said that they have taken action against the offenders and have suspended them.
He said that they have prepared for the forcible retirement of four repeat offenders; among them, one has been forcibly retired by the department. Athar stated that their complaints have been forwarded to concerned agencies to check the veracity of the allegations. “The anti-corruption bureau is checking the validity of the complaints,” Athar said.
“From the beginning, it was made plain that there would be no tolerance for any form of corruption or neglect of duty. According to Athar Aamir Khan, action is being taken against high officials, ward officers, and construction inspectors as well as lower-ranking personnel.
Taking strong action against the violators, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has generated a record-breaking 200 million in revenue for the corporation for 2021–22.
