Effective measures taken to ensure water security in J&K: LG

Srinagar, May 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conducted a comprehensive review of the schemes and projects of the Jal Shakti Department.
Highlighting the progress, Sinha announced that a staggering 14.91 lakh rural households in the Union Territory now boast access to tap water connections. He underscored the importance of completing ongoing works to ensure every household receives clean drinking water through taps.
“Our endeavors to provide tap water supply to all citizens are on the right track. We are laying the groundwork for a future-ready water management system. Access to safe and adequate drinking water for every citizen is my unwavering commitment, and effective measures are being taken to ensure water security in Jammu and Kashmir,” stated the Lt Governor.
Sinha applauded the district-wise achievements made under the JalJeevan Mission and stressed the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in project execution, urging officials to meet targets within specified timelines.
The meeting delved into the progress achieved under the Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) initiative, alongside discussions on the working of PaniSamitis and necessary interventions to address challenges in implementing the JalJeevan Mission.
The Lt Governor also scrutinized the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities and commended the department’s efforts in community mobilization and capacity building for water quality monitoring and surveillance.
Furthermore, Sinha reviewed the action plan for the summer season, directing officials to take effective measures to meet the increased water demand during this period.
The meeting also touched upon progress under centrally sponsored schemes, PMDP projects, and various other key initiatives, including arrangements for the ShriAmarnathjiYatra. The Lt Governor emphasized the UT’s specific action plan for the water sector and discussed governance initiatives of the Jal Shakti Department.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Rajeev RaiBhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; AtalDulloo, Chief Secretary; ShaleenKabra, Financial Commissioner, Jal Shakti Department; ShSantosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Finance Department; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; Dr.GhulamNabiItoo, Mission Director, JalJeevan Mission J&K, Chief Engineers, and other senior officers.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spearheaded a comprehensive review meeting of the Revenue Department alongside senior officials at the Civil Secretariat.
During the session, the Lt Governor underscored the necessity of developing a robust and transparent land records management system, aiming for seamless delivery of services to the citizens.
“Our priority lies in effective land governance, utilizing drone surveys for property card generation, and ensuring accessibility of land records for the successful implementation of schemes and infrastructure development, thereby enhancing citizens’ quality of life,” Lt Governor added.
He, further, directed the Revenue Department, Divisional Commissioners, and all Deputy Commissioners to streamline online services, focusing on mutations, change of land use, and issuance of various certificates including those for legal heirs, SC, ST, and OBC communities.
Lt Governor stressed on providing hassle-free access to land records and essential certificates for all citizens.
The meeting encompassed discussions on the progress achieved in scanning, uploading, and digitization of data, along with the status update on properties associated with Evacuee and Waqf assets, and land transfers for various public purposes.
Additionally, deliberations ensued regarding the progress of the Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA), revenue collection realization, services facilitated through Revenue Plus, and the ongoing computerization of Revenue Courts.
Among others present included Rajeev RaiBhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; AtalDulloo, Chief Secretary; ShaleenKabra, Financial Commissioner Revenue; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; and PrasannaRamaswamy G, Secretary, Revenue. Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and other esteemed officials were also present.
