Pulwama, July 24: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, lauded the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora for its innovative educational approach and adherence to moral and ethical standards during the university’s 3rd convocation ceremony.
Addressing students, faculty members, and dignitaries, the LG, who also serves as the Chancellor of IUST, expressed his satisfaction with the university’s contributions to the academic and personal development of its students. He highlighted the remarkable achievements of female students, who secured 22 out of 27 gold medals for the second consecutive year, emphasising the pride this brings to Jammu and Kashmir and the nation.
“Through their achievements, the female students have made Jammu and Kashmir proud and have become an inspiration for future generations,” Sinha stated. He stressed the need for increased representation of women in the workforce, correlating their academic success with future contributions to social and economic progress.
Sinha acknowledged the crucial role of parents and teachers in the students’ success, likening teachers to artisans who transform raw stones into polished diamonds. He praised the faculty’s and vice chancellor’s dedication in transforming IUST and commended Dr. Dinesh Singh’s efforts in enhancing higher education in Jammu and Kashmir.
The LG emphasized the importance of a well-rounded education that extends beyond mere graduation, noting that the rapidly changing world requires students to be adaptable and equipped with lifelong learning skills. He praised IUST for its focus on relevant and innovative education aligned with current social, economic, and industrial demands.
Referring to a survey on Generation Z, Sinha pointed out that today’s youth prioritize sustainable development along with technological advancements, keeping climate change into their consideration. He expressed pride in IUST’s role in fostering a balance between cutting-edge technology and cultural heritage, preparing students to face future challenges with integrity and compassion.
The LG also highlighted the university’s strides in promoting industry-driven education, mentioning the establishment of 15 startups in the past year. He encouraged further innovation and commercialization of ideas to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Concluding his address, Sinha urged teachers to create opportunities for students to discover their hidden talents and emphasized the need for continuous collaboration between students and educators. He expressed confidence that IUST would continue to achieve new heights, contributing significantly to the progress of Jammu and Kashmir and the broader society.
Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST, presented the university report, highlighting its achievements. During the convocation, 27 students were conferred with gold medals, 53 students received merit certificates, 1056 students were awarded degrees for UG/PG programs, and 19 students received their Ph.D. degree certificates.
Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lt Governor; Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman, J&K Higher Education Council; Vice-Chancellors of various universities; HoDs of different educational institutions; senior officials of civil and police administration; faculty members; students; and their parents were present at the ceremony.
Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, eminent nuclear scientist and former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, congratulated the students, emphasizing the opportunities and challenges ahead and the capabilities acquired at IUST to lead successful careers and contribute to nation-building.
The Lt Governor concluded by expressing confidence in the students’ ability to drive societal betterment and development in the region and the country, owing to the values and knowledge gained at IUST.
