Srinagar, Feb 16: The School Education Department in Jammu and Kashmir has taken steps to ensure clean drinking water for students by installing water purifiers in 233 PM SHRI Schools across Jammu and Kashmir.
An official from the school education department J&K told Rising Kashmir that this initiative will benefit approximately 55,000 students in the Union Territory.
“Under the guidance of Administrative secretary Dr Piyush Singla, the school education department J&K is actively working towards improving the quality of education in government schools across Jammu and Kashmir,” officials said.
He said that the PM SHRI Schools scheme, sponsored by the Government of India, aims to develop over 14,500 schools across India. In the first phase, 233 existing schools have been approved for the PM SHRI Schools programme in Jammu and Kashmir.
“These schools will be equipped with innovation labs to enhance students’ knowledge in the field of innovation. Furthermore, efforts will be made to beautify the schools by creating kitchen gardens where students can learn about fresh vegetables. The vegetables grown in these gardens can also be used in the students’ midday meals,” official said.
He said that in the PM SHRI schools, not only will the walls be painted and dustbins installed, but also the learning experiences will be enhanced.
“These schools will provide a conducive environment for learning with good physical infrastructure and appropriate resources. The aim is to offer high-quality education to all students,” he said.
