Jammu, Mar 10: Dr Sushil Sharma, Head of the Department of Cardiology, held a comprehensive cardiac awareness and health check-up camp here on Sunday.
The camp held against the backdrop of rapid urbanization and the escalating prevalence of cardiac ailments in urban areas, aimed to propagate a heart-friendly lifestyle among the populace.
Engaging with the attendees, Dr Sushil shed light on the concerning surge in heart diseases, particularly in urban settings. He underscored projections indicating that by 2050, nearly 70% of the global population would reside in cities, catalyzing a concurrent rise in non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Currently, CVDs account for a staggering 44% of all deaths worldwide.
The cardiologist elaborated on the multifaceted factors contributing to the burgeoning incidence of CVDs in urban and peri-urban environments. “Sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy dietary habits, pervasive stress, and environmental pollution are pivotal determinants of this health crisis. To mitigate these risks, it is imperative to chart out urban planning strategies that prioritize physical activity, mitigate pollution, and foster the proliferation of green spaces,” he said.
The management committee of the Mandir, including Naveen Bali, Harsh Sharma, Hans Raj Gupta, Kishore Sharma, Vinod Khajuria, Ashwani Suri, and Sanjay Bali, lauded Dr Sushil Sharma and his team for spearheading the camp. They expressed heartfelt appreciation for the endeavor, recognizing its significant contribution to promoting cardiovascular health awareness in the community.
The camp witnessed the active participation of other healthcare professionals, such as Dr Yashwant Sharma and Dr Dhaneshwer Kapoor, alongside dedicated paramedics and volunteers. Their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the event, earning admiration and gratitude from all quarters.
In a bid to combat the escalating health crisis, Dr Sushil Sharma and his team embarked on a mission to empower individuals with knowledge and resources essential for cardiovascular health. Through informative sessions and health screenings, they endeavoured to instill a sense of urgency and responsibility regarding heart health among the attendees.
As urbanization continues its relentless march, Dr Sushil Sharma stressed the critical importance of proactive measures to safeguard public health. Harnessing urban planning strategies that prioritize physical activity, mitigate pollution, and foster green spaces emerged as paramount in addressing the burgeoning burden of cardiovascular diseases in urban areas.
The camp concluded on a note of gratitude and hope, with attendees empowered with newfound knowledge and equipped with the tools necessary to embark on a journey towards heart-healthy living. Dr Sushil Sharma and his team reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to combating the scourge of cardiovascular diseases and fostering a healthier, happier future for all.
