Dooru, Feb 22: Residents of Tumboripora Dooru in south Kashmir Anantnag district, on Wednesday held a protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) and blocked the Anantnag Verinag road.
Locals claimed that the village transformer is frequently experiencing technical faults. They blocked the Anantnag-Verinag road disrupting traffic on the route for some time.
Arif Hussain, a local, said that the concerned department failed to supply them with the scheduled electricity and that their electricity transformer is developing technical snags time and again.
“Around 70 households receive electricity from the 100 KVA transformer installed in our ward number 1. However, the transformer serves a large area, it develops faults on a regular basis,” he said.
He further said that the 100 KVA transformer was installed decades ago here, but it was not upgraded with the increase in households.
Another local stated that the wires are dangling from the wooden poles, which pose a risk, and that these poles can provide a clear picture of the electricity scenario here.
Mohd Iqbal, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) PDD Dooru, told Rising Kashmir that the damaged transformer had been lifted and would be installed on Wednesday evening only.
