Srinagar, Feb 22: One day workshop was conducted on Wednesday under Vigyan Prasar DST sponsored programme funded by SEED division of DST for Socio-Economic Upliftment of Scheduled Tribes of Kashmir.
The aim of the workshop was to sanitize the ST community of Kupwara regarding the scope of bio-resource management in socio economic upliftment.
Dr Nasir Hamid Masoodi of SKUAST K Shalimar who is PI of the programme and Dr Arif Huuain Wani highlighted the scope of ornamental plants, bulb production and nursery raising of other ornamentals in sustainable livelihood security. Besides this, role of ornamental plants in bee keeping was one of the main aspect highlighted in this one day workshop.
The importance of temperate floral wealth and its socio economic upliftment was the theme of the workshop. There was a healthy discussion with ST ‘s of different villages of Tensil Handwara regarding the scope of tapping the high value crop selection which can give maximum returns from small land holding.
