Srinagar, Oct 23: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired two significant meetings at Raj Bhawan today, focusing on security and education in Kashmir.
In the first meeting, the Lt Governor reviewed the security situation in the Kashmir division, stressing the need for stringent measures to safeguard key infrastructure projects and construction camps. He instructed J&K Police to conduct security audits, maintain round-the-clock checkpoints, and intensify night patrolling.
The Lt Governor called for a robust intelligence network and coordinated operations with the army and other agencies, stating, “The entire terror ecosystem, including those aiding terrorists, must be dismantled.”
Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat; Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti; Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Vijay Kumar; Additional Director General of Police, CID, Nitish Kumar; Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi; Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Mandeep Bhandari; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri and other senior officials of J&K Police attended the meeting.
In another meeting, the Lt Governor chaired the 83rd University Council Meeting of the University of Kashmir, where he emphasised skill development, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The Council approved various proposals, including the introduction of a 4-year “Design Your Degree” programme and adopting UGC guidelines to allow dual academic pursuits under NEP-2020. Additionally, the Institute of Music & Fine Arts was renamed after Pran Krishan Kaul.
Earlier, Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir presented various Agenda items before the Council for approval and ratification. She also highlighted the various achievements of the University in academic, research and co-curricular activities. It was informed that the University of Kashmir has figured at 45th in the NIRF ranking.

Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; Dr Rashmi Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department; Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary, Planning, Monitoring and Development Department; Dr. A.S.K. Sinha, other Council members and senior officials attended the meeting, in person and through virtual mode.
