Srinagar, Oct 23: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday evening to discuss the pressing law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir, including the restoration of statehood to the region. This meeting came just three days after a tragic terrorist attack in Ganderbal district that claimed the lives of seven individuals, including one doctor and six construction workers involved in a tunnel construction project.
This marks Abdullah’s first official visit to the national capital following his recent election victory, where his National Conference party secured 42 out of 90 assembly seats. Since the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory in 2019, the police force has been under the jurisdiction of the Union Home Ministry.
According to sources, Abdullah is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, following the Prime Minister’s return from Russia after attending the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan.
A significant topic of discussion is expected to be the statehood resolution passed by Abdullah’s cabinet on October 19, which has been approved by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Abdullah intends to present this resolution to PM Modi during their meeting.
