Srinagar, July 28: Chowdhary Muhammad Iqbal, the Director of Agriculture Kashmir, on Friday conducted a visit to Kalaroos Kupwara in north Kashmir to assess the extent of crop damage resulting from the heavy rains.
Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Muhammad Iqbal on Friday visited Kalaroos Kupwara to take assessment of crop damage caused by the heavy rains.
The director visited the Kalaroos area and took on spot review of the crop damage caused by heavy rains and cloudburst in some areas in presence of concerned officials and officers and PRI members.
“I visited many places where I saw in the upper reaches the debris has come downstream which has caused damage to the paddy and maize,” he said.
The director issued on-spot directions to the concerned agriculture officials to register the farmers under central sponsored scheme Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) before 31 July.
“They have also been directed to prepare a list of the affected farmers in collaboration with the PRI members and appealed to the PRIs to verify the list and no one should be left out,” the director said.
Iqbal said the department along with the Revenue Department will conduct a door-to-door survey and will share the list with Deputy Commissioner Kupwara for necessary action.
The director agriculture said that there are clear-cut directions from the Union Territory Administration headed by Lieutenant Governor J&K, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary to reach out to the farmers who are in distress or face any kind of issues.
“I have strictly instructed the employees of the Agriculture Department to hold camps in the area and make the list of the affected farmers and the lists should be shared and pasted at the concerned Panchayats,” he added.
The director also requested the youth of the areas to help the officials of the department in the successful conduct of the door-to-door survey for the benefit of the farmers.
