Kulgam, Nov 16: District Hospital (DH) Kulgam is “sick” and in dire need of revitalization, said Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kulgam, M.Y. Tarigami.
Tarigami, a senior CPI(M) leader, made these remarks after attending a meeting chaired by Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo in Kulgam. He stated that the meeting aimed to review developmental schemes and described the discussions as “positive” and “constructive.”
MLA Kulgam criticized the condition of DH Kulgam, calling it “sick” and requiring immediate attention and operational upgrades. “The hospital requires immediate attention and operational upgrades,” he said.
He proposed associating DH Kulgam with GMC Anantnag. “I have previously written to the Honourable Minister, Sakina Itoo, and discussed this matter with the Chief Secretary. I raised it again in this meeting, and I am pleased to note that it received unanimous support,” Tarigami added.
Tarigami also said there is the need to upgrade the Wanpoh-Aharbal road and proposed constructing a flyover at Khudwani to address persistent traffic congestion.
Addressing the pressing issue of unemployment among youth, he urged for the development of industrial units. “Given that this region is predominantly agricultural and fruit-producing, facilities for cold storage should be prioritized,” he said.
MLA Kulgam urged the government to expedite work on industrial units, particularly on available land at Chakpora and Brazloo.
Regarding financial planning, Tarigami said, “The elections were recently concluded, and the budget session is expected in February or March. A comprehensive discussion will determine how funds are allocated and where they will be spent.”
“After a decade, we have a government in place, and we hope for much-needed relief,” he said.
