Budgam, Jan 22: Despite the government’s prohibition on roadside parking, people continue to park their vehicles on both sides of the roads in Beerwah Main Town, located in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Zahid Ahmad, who visited the Sub-district Hospital Beerwah, informed Rising Kashmir that the lack of adequate parking facilities near the hospital has led people to park their vehicles along the roadside.
“There are numerous government offices adjacent to the hospital, and individuals from various villages within the Beerwah sub-division visit these offices. Consequently, these visitors also park their vehicles on both sides of the road, resulting in considerable traffic congestion,” Ahmad said.
He said that it is the responsibility of everyone to park their vehicles in designated areas where they can remain for a few hours.
Tasleema Bano, a female patient, said that the people visiting various government offices daily are forced to walk along the main road due to vehicles parked on both sides, creating challenges for pedestrians.
“The government must take stringent action against those who violate parking regulations and should designate proper parking areas for vehicles,” she said.
Liyakat Dev, a traffic police officer on duty, said that traffic enforcement operations are periodically conducted in the main town of Beerwah.
“We have already notified the public to refrain from parking their vehicles along the roadside. We have issued fines to those who have parked incorrectly on both sides of the road,” Dev said.
He said that the people must adhere to the traffic regulations and utilize designated parking areas, as this will help alleviate traffic congestion in Beerwah
