Srinagar, Mar 22: The Jammu & Kashmir government on Saturday informed the Assembly that the Dagpora Anchar area falls within the jurisdiction of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and is not classified as a rural area.
The statement came in response to a question raised by Youth National Conference (YNC) Provincial President and MLA Hazratbal, Salman Ali Sagar, who sought clarification regarding the area’s status. Sagar had questioned whether it was true that Dagpora Anchar neither falls within the territorial jurisdiction of the SMC nor has been notified as a rural area, and what steps the government is taking to resolve any administrative confusion.
Responding to the question, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the portfolio of the Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), stated that as per electoral records, the Dagpora Anchar area is part of Ward No. 70–Buchpora of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
“The population of Dagpora Anchar is registered in the electoral roll of Polling Part No. 1 of Ward 70–Buchpora. The area has an electorate of around 1,116 voters, including 570 male and 546 female electors,” the CM said.
He further informed the House that voters from Dagpora Anchar had actively participated in the 2018 Urban Local Body (ULB) elections by casting their votes for the Municipal Councillor of Ward 70–Buchpora. “In fact, out of the total 30 votes cast in the ward during the 2018 ULB elections, 27 votes were polled from the Dagpora Anchar polling area,” he said.
