Ganderbal, Dec 15: The Department of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised an induction-cum-orientation programme for the newly admitted students of MTTM & B.Voc (T&HM) at varsity’s Green Campus here on Thursday.
Addressing the students, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah highlighted the prospects and potentials of NEP 2020 to prepare efficient manpower with high skills in order to tackle the challenges in nation building. He impressed upon the department faculty to explore the latent talent and capabilities of the students. In his speech, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, welcomed the students to the CUK family. He reiterated that MTTM is the flagship programme of the university and assured the newly admitted students that quality education shall be provided to them for their holistic development in the university.
Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika impressed upon the faculty to ignite the spark within the students and to develop humanity among them. He impressed upon the faculty to hone and chisel the hidden capabilities of the students.
The inaugural was followed by addresses by Prof. Sheeba Hamid (Coordinator, MTTM Program, AMU) and Mr. Basharat Rasheed (Director Sales, Vivanta by Taj). Both speakers shared their views with the students and were of the opinion that there are huge job opportunities/avenues in the tourism sector. They called upon the students to develop digital skills, communication & interpersonal skills, and geographical knowledge about the destinations respectively in order to make them fit for the tourism industry.
Department Coordinator, Dr. Faizan Ashraf Mir highlighted the importance of organizing induction cum orientation programmes at universities in order to acclimatize the students with the culture, values, code of conduct, and academic and examination pedagogy respectively. Assistant Prof. Dr. Shahnaz Akhter conducted the programme proceedings while as Senior Assistant Prof. Dr. Ramjit proposed a vote of thanks.
The induction programme was followed by the second session wherein presentations were made by the DTS faculty members and officials of the university on varied themes including Training and Placement, Academic and Examination Pedagogy for the curriculum of MTTM and B.Voc (T&HM), Anti-Ragging, Harassment against Women, Library Resources, Extra Curricular Activities/Tours respectively. Assistant Professors Dr. Abid Suhail Nika conducted the proceedings of the second session, while Dr. Adil Amin Nazki proposed the formal vote of thanks.
CUK’s CPC distributes offer letters to students
The Central Placement Cell (CPC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised an offer letter distribution function at the varsity’s green campus.
The offer letters were distributed by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, and Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar. Twenty students of the university have been placed in the year 2022 with some reputed corporate houses like Reliance Jio, Shuraa and Conglomerate IT.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, emphasized on conducting regular campus placement drives at the university. “Universities are also known by student placements, therefore we need to nurture students to be responsible citizens of the nation,” he said, adding that employability is an important concern of the universities and all the departments need to coordinate to ensure placements of the students
Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, said, the university administration will provide all the resources and necessary support to ensure student placements.
Dean SoBS, Prof Fayaz A Nikka asked the Cell to invite reputed corporate houses to the university to interact with the students, adding that we need to upgrade and polish the student skill base as per the requirements of the job market.
Chief Placement Officer, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, briefed the participants regarding various activities conducted by the CPC. Er Afaq Alam, Coordinator Department of IT proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Nuka Raju from DCJ and Dr Ashiq Hussain Najar, MTTM were also present on the occasion.
