Ganderbal, Nov 3: In connection with the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week under the theme “Say no to corruption; commit to the Nation” the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised a sensitisation programme for the employees of the varsity at Green Campus here on Friday.
Addressing the participants, Dean School of Legal Studies and Chief Proctor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, described corruption as a biggest impediment and obstacle to the economic growth and progress of the country. “Corruption adversely impacts the socio-economic fabric of the society and breeds inequality and injustice, thus further widening the gap between the haves and have-nots,” Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, said. He said there are various legislations and regulations formulated by the Government to check the menace of corruption, but what matters is the one’s conscience. Prof. Farooq further asked the employees to work with utmost dedication and honesty.
In his speech, Chief Vigilance Officer, CUK, Prof. Wali Muhammad Shah, said, the corruption in government run institutions shake the peoples’ confidence. “The government agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation, Anti-Corruption Bureau and Central Vigilance Organisation should take strict and punitive action against those involved in corruption and malpractices,” he said. Prof. Shah added that the officials in the CUK are following all the prescribed norms and guidelines vis-à-vis its operations and are maintaining full transparency in this regard.
Experts, DSP, CBI, Srinagar, Mr. Sheikh Firdous and Inspector, CBI, Mr. Sheikh Aftab, in their speeches said the Vigilance Awareness Week is observed every year to encourage all the stakeholders to collectively participate in the fight against corruption and to raise public awareness. They said the youth, especially the students should come forward and encourage the whistle blowers to highlight the malpractices in the institutions. The experts later on answered the queries by the participants about the growing menace of corrupt practices in the society.
Earlier, Dean DSW, Dr. Irfan Aalam in his address, described corruption as the biggest malice and challenge faced by the nation and said, the corrupt officials misusing their official position for personal gains and vested interests should be identified and booked under the provisions of law. He said that such sensitisation programmes were the need of the hour to aware the employees about the ill-effects of corruption.
Dy Directors DSW, Dr. Faizan Ashraf conducted the programme and Dr. Asif Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
