Srinagar, Nov 9: SSM College on Wednesday donated 100 quintals of rice to needy residing in adjacent villages of institute subsequent to less harvest of rice.
The step is a part of continued social work which the institute has been carrying out since its establishment, the college said in a statement, adding that the main motive of this campaign was to promote value of kindness, sharing, caring and empathy in society.
Vice Chairperson expressed her pleasure and said such programmes will benefit the deserving people with a hope that within the available sources such activities will be rendered as a continuous process by the institute.
Deserving people, who gathered at college campus to collect the rice, expressed their gratitude to the founder of the institute who strives to improve their standard of living. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the institute for the care they are showering for the last three decades.
“Efforts taken by the institute in increasing literacy rate by imparting free education, distribution of stationary and uniform has been a regular feature of the institute,” said a local present at the spot.
The activity was conducted by students’ council under the supervision of Registrar, Dr N A Shah along with the staff of SSM College of Engineering. Education Administrator, while talking to her students, appreciated them and reminded them that “great acts are made up of small deeds”.
