Congress writes to LG Manoj Sinha over Katra situation,seeks urgent meeting

JKPCC has written to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha seeking urgent appointment to discuss Katra situation,while expressing serious concern over the continued detention especially the treatment being meted to the detained political leaders housed in the crowded spaces with unhygienic conditions.

Meanwhile party has also conveyed to the authorities that a delegation of top Congress leaders has desired to visit Katra to meet the agitating people and family members of detained leaders besides urging for allowing senior leaders to meet the detained leaders.

An urgent meeting of Senior leadership of Congress was held here today afternoon under the chairmanship of PCC President Tariq Hameed Karra to discuss the current situation , following the detention of several political & other leaders of different shades supporting the ongoing agitation and bandh in Katra against the proposed ropeway project.

The meeting expressed serious concerns over the reports of ill-treatment to the detained leaders who are denied basic facilities and detained in over crowded spaces with unhygenic situations.

“They are treated like criminals while they are political and trade leaders representing a cause of thousands of people likely to be affected besides the religious sentiments over the issue.”

The meeting decided to convey its serious concerns over the situation & the continued detention of the Leaders of different shades to the LG and send a high level delegation to Katra to meet agitating people and family members of detained leaders besides seeking permission to meet detained leaders.

The party has written to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, in this regard, in the evening today, seeking time for an early meeting, to discuss the current situation and the demands of agitating people.

The meeting was attended by Working Presidents JKPCC Tara Chand &  Raman Bhalla , Th Balwan Singh, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, former minister Yogesh Sawhney, I/C PCC HQ Ved Mahajan,Th Balbir Singh Ex- MLA, Rajnish Sharma Treasurer.

It is worth mentioning that earlier also a high levels delegation of party comprising Raman Bhalla,Ch Lal Singh,Ravinder Sharma and Dr Manohar Lal had got the detained leaders of Katra,released after they met Divisional Commissioner Jammu , a few days ago & had also visited Katra same day & met the agitating people there, who had then suspended their agitation for further dialogue.

As the agitation resumed and several senior leaders of Katra including senior congress leaders comprising Dist President & Congress assembly candidate Bhupinder Singh Jamwal,Rajesh Sadotra Ex-General Secretary PCC & others have been detained but none of senior congress leaders were allowed to visit there and were returned back to Jammu,except Mr Yogesh Sawhney who succeeded in reaching there once .
