New Delhi, Jan 31: Sonia Gandhi’s comment referring to President Droupadi Murmu as a “poor lady” has ignited a storm of criticism, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarun Chugh labeling the remark as a display of the Congress party’s “dynastic arrogance” and a profound disrespect for India’s institutions.
Chugh, the BJP’s national general secretary, decried the statement as not only an affront to the President’s office but also as an insult to the nation as a whole. He alleged the Gandhis—Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka—demonstrate a long-standing entitlement that undermines the dignity of India’s democratic frameworks.
“This remark illustrates a contempt for a tribal woman holding the highest office in the country, reflecting a colonial mindset that has no place in modern India,” Chugh said. He called for the importance of respect for elected officials and their offices, regardless of political affiliations.
