Srinagar, July 03: Chairman of the PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI) Kashmir Vicky Shaw on Monday highlighted the “transformative impact” of GST on the economy and underscored the need for continuous engagement and interaction between the GST department and stakeholders. He stressed that a closer partnership will enable an environment conducive to transparent compliance and effective issue resolution.
According to a statement issued here, Chairman PHDCCI Kashmir along with former chairman Baldev Singh Raina, Handicraft Committee Convener Sajad Shah, and Iqbal Fayaz Jan, Deputy Director PHDCCI represented the Chamber on the occasion of the GST Week celebrations.
The event, both physically and virtually, was participated by prominent persons including Dr Rashmi Singh (IAS) Commissioner State Taxes Department, Ms Ankita Kar (IRAS) Additional Commissioner State Taxes, Mr Shakeel Maqbool (ICAS) Additional Commissioner State Taxes Enforcement Kashmir, Mr Parveez Ahmad Raina (JKAS) Deputy Commissioner Enforcement, Central, Kashmir, Mrs. Tabasum Kamili (KAS), Deputy Commissioner (Appeals -I) Kashmir, Mrs Samor Naik (KAS), Deputy Commissioner (Appeals -II) Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Baba (JKAS) Deputy Commissioner Audit, IT, Kashmir.
The Commissioner State Taxes attended as the chief guest virtually, while the Additional Commissioner of Taxation and other senior officials of the Tax Department, traders, federations, and chambers attended in person.
Under the theme “Anniversary of Implementation of GST”, the gathering witnessed an engaging discourse on the progress made in the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the vital role played by the GST department in facilitating its successful execution.
In his address, Chairman PHDCCI A P Vicky Shaw expressed his gratitude to the commissioners and taxation officials for their distinguished presence at the event and acknowledged their efforts in resolving various challenges encountered by the business community. He articulated the importance of extensive handholding by the GST department to assist businesses in understanding and embracing the complexities of the GST regime effectively.
“The presence of the former Chair and Deputy Director of the Chamber reinforced the collective vision for a collaborative approach to enhance the implementation framework,” the PHDCCI said in a statement. “The Chairman emphasized the significance of a comprehensive and inclusive handholding program initiated by the GST department to ensure that businesses receive the necessary guidance, clarifications, and support.”
The Chairman concluded his address by expressing optimism that through mutual cooperation and handholding, facilitated by the GST department, businesses can confidently navigate the evolving regulatory landscape. The collaboration between the government, traders, federations, and chambers, as witnessed during the event, augurs well for an inclusive and vibrant business ecosystem, he said.
