Srinagar, Oct10: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang K. Pole, along with officials from the Election Commission of India, submitted the official list of newly elected MLAs from the J&K Legislative Assembly to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan on Thursday.
Accompanying Pole were Pramod Kumar Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Election Commission of India; Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, Special Secretary; and Anil Salgotra, Joint CEO of the Chief Electoral Office in J&K. The team presented a copy of the notification issued by the Election Commission of India, as per Section 73 of the Representation of People Act, 1951. The notification lists the names of Members elected to the Legislative Assembly following the recent elections.
During the meeting, LG Sinha congratulated CEO Pandurang Pole for the successful completion of the electoral process. He also commended the efforts of the Election Officials, J&K Police, and security personnel for ensuring the elections were conducted peacefully, transparently, and fairly.
The elections were held in three phases: 24 constituencies in the first phase, 26 in the second, and 40 in the third. A total of 873 candidates contested for the 90-member Assembly, representing various communities across the region. The robust voter turnout is seen as a sign of renewed enthusiasm for democratic engagement in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Pole said, “The successful conduct of these elections is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved and the commitment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to the democratic process.”
In the election results announced on October 8, 2024, the National Conference (NC) emerged as the single largest party, winning 42 seats, while the BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) secured 29 seats, retaining its stronghold in the Jammu region.
