Srinagar, Dec 06: In a decisive move to counter the misuse of social media platforms for anti-national activities, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has invoked Section 144 Cr.PC 1973.
The order, issued by District Magistrate, Budgam, Akshay Labroo (IAS) and District Magistrate, Pulwama Dr Basharat Qayoom, is effective immediately within the jurisdiction of District Budgam and Pulwama.
The directive explicitly prohibits the ‘posting,’ ‘uploading,’ or dissemination of incendiary messages and propaganda associated with terrorist and separatist outfits. The administration has expressed concerns over the exploitation of social media platforms by certain individuals or groups to glorify terrorist actions, intimidate the public, and propagate false narratives.
This measure specifically targets activities that incite violence, spread disaffection and hatred, and promote terrorist ideologies, posing a potential threat to public order and tranquillity. District Magistrates emphasise that such acts jeopardize the security of the state and the maintenance of law and order.
The order aims to curb anti-national activities that not only pose a threat to public tranquillity but also aim to terrorize common citizens and impede public functionaries from carrying out their lawful duties.
This stringent measure underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public, playing a crucial role in countering activities detrimental to the security and harmony of the region. A senior officer at the General Administration Department (GAD) informed Rising Kashmir that strict directives have been issued to curb the misuse of social media for anti-terror activities in various districts.
“The orders signal a proactive approach in addressing the challenges posed by the misuse of social media for anti-national purposes in Jammu and Kashmir,” the officer stated.
