Srinagar, Aug 05: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has achieved significant success in securing convictions in two separate criminal cases, highlighting its ongoing dedication to combating economic crimes in the region.In the first case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar convicted Mukhtar Ahmad Guroo and Nazir Ahmad Guroo, both sons of Gulla Mohd Guroo from Abi-Karpora, Nehru Park Dalgate Srinagar, the CBK said in a statement issued here.“The case, FIR No. 24/2008 under Sections 420 and 109-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing), involved a scheme where the accused allegedly defrauded the complainant of Rs 34 lakhs under the false pretenses of purchasing a residential property,” it said, adding, “It was revealed that the complainant, a foreigner, was unlawfully deceived into believing such a transaction was possible. After a marathon trial spanning 12 years, the court sentenced both accused to two years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each.”In the second case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar found seven accused guilty in FIR No. 54/2002 under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing). “The case involved the preparation and submission of fake 10th class mark cards to secure admission to a Higher Secondary School. A detailed investigation uncovered strong documentary and oral evidence, leading to the conviction of all seven individuals. They were sentenced to two years of simple imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 per offence,” the CBK said.“These convictions underscore Crime Branch Kashmir’s strong commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for victims of white-collar crimes,” the statement said, adding that the department remains focused on pursuing such cases with professionalism and precision to maintain integrity in financial dealings.
