Srinagar, Dec 15: The Border Security Force (BSF) Sunday thwarted a major smuggling attempt along the International Border in Jammu by intercepting a Pakistani drone carrying 495 grams of narcotics, officials said.
The incident occurred on the evening of December 14 at around 8:10 pm in the Arnia Sector, where alert BSF personnel spotted and intercepted the drone.
A BSF Spokesman said that a smuggling attempt has been foiled by the alert troops of BSF Jammu deployed in Arnia Sector of Jammu, wherein BSF troops intercepted the Pakistani drone and recovered a Pak drone along with narcotics substance.
“The relentless dedication and sharp vigil of BSF personnel have once again defeated nefarious designs of anti-national elements, showcasing their unwavering commitment to the nation’s security,” he said.
The incident was reported days after Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu frontier, DK Boora claimed that drone activities from Pakistan has substantially reduced after the deployment of an anti-drone system along the Jammu border. It has been upgraded due to which the drone activity from other side of the border has decreased, he said.
Besides the heavy deployment of manpower, the technical surveillance is present on the entire border across Jammu region and it is being further expanded to other places in the country, he said. The system includes detection of an incoming UAV and then neutralizing the threat.
“Jammu border is one of the most sensitive in the country and duty here is considered to be very difficult. 24-hour vigil is maintained with precision to stop any infiltration attempt from the other side of the border,” IG BSF Boora added.
