Baramulla, Nov 01: Baramulla Police has reported a substantial decline in registered cases over recent months, reflecting the success of their ongoing anti-drug campaign.
A police official said that as of October 31, the police have documented 242 cases under the NDPS Act, leading to the apprehension of 425 individuals involved in drug peddling.
“Among them, 69 hard-core drug peddlers have been booked under PIT NDPS PSA.”
Police said that in addition to these arrests, properties valued in crores belonging to drug peddlers have been seized and attached.
“The police have successfully confiscated contraband worth crores in the black market.”
Police said that properties totaling Rs 2.3 crores, including three houses, three vehicles, and cash amounting to Rs.1.2 Crores, have been seized and attached by the authorities.
The concerted efforts of the Baramulla Police have resulted in a substantial reduction in drug peddling cases.
A senior police official said that while the first half of the year witnessed an increase, reaching 40 cases in April alone, this trend has reversed from July onwards.
“The subsequent months saw a decline, with 18 cases in July, 15 in August, 18 in September, and 11 in October,” he added.
Citizens of the district have expressed their faith and satisfaction in the police’s actions against drugs, pledging total support to the law enforcement efforts.
Remaining steadfast in their commitment, Baramulla Police continues to confront drug smugglers and seize both movable and immovable properties associated with illicit trafficking within the district.
Baramulla police said that the general public of the district is urged to come forward with information regarding drug peddlers in their areas (identity will be kept confidential) to strengthen the Police-Public relationship and eradicate the menace of drugs from society.
