New Delhi, Aug 18: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Morcha, led by its National President Jamal Siddiqui, will observe the birth anniversary of freedom fighter, Padma Vibhushan awardee and BJP Founder General Secretary Sikander Bakht on August 24.
Tribute programmes will be organised across various regions of the country, including Delhi, to commemorate the contributions of Sikander Bakht, the Front said in a statement issued here.
In Delhi, Siddiqui will pay tributes at Sikander Bakht’s shrine at Mehndiya Cemetery, Maulana Azad Medical Institute. A special tribute meeting will also be organised by the Minority Morcha Delhi Pradesh on this occasion. Preparations for the event are already underway, with the Morcha’s National Vice President, SM Akram, having issued guidelines and written to all state presidents of the Morcha to ensure the success of the programme, he said.
The National President highlighted Sikander Bakht’s pivotal role in laying the foundation of the BJP. Bakht served as the party’s General Secretary and later ascended to the position of Vice President in 1984. He was recognised as the Muslim face of the BJP during its early days and served as the Foreign Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 13-day government. Bakht was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1990 and became the Leader of the Opposition in 1992. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2000.
