Jammu, July 12: Following the recent visit of National President JP Nadda to Jammu, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shifted into full election mode, assigning various responsibilities to sitting MPs, former ministers and MLAs of the party in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
The party’s focus is particularly on assembly segments where BJP’s vote share declined during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Party leaders have been tasked with engaging with people in these areas, raising awareness about the Central government’s welfare schemes and initiatives aimed at benefiting the public.
The newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Jammu region, namely Jugal Kishore Sharma and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, along with former MLAs and ministers of the BJP, have received directives from the party high command to connect with constituents in their respective areas. Their aim is to inform the public about government welfare schemes and build confidence ahead of the upcoming elections.
The BJP leadership, under the direction of J&K UT President Ravinder Raina, has specifically identified nine assembly constituencies in the Jammu region where the party’s vote share declined in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. These constituencies include Bani, Basholi, Billawar, Kathua, Jasrota, Hira Nagar, Samba, Vijaipur, and Ramgarh.
Sources said the BJP high command has instructed leaders, including MPs, former ministers, and MLAs to actively engage with the public in these constituencies and regain their trust ahead of the assembly elections.
During his recent visit to Jammu, Nadda sought feedback on potential alliances. Following a decline in its vote share in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the Jammu region, the BJP is exploring new alliances in Jammu & Kashmir ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the Union Territory.
During the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP did not field candidates for the three seats in Kashmir, namely Srinagar, Baramulla and Rajouri-Anantnag. Instead, the party openly supported Altaf Bukhari’s Apni Party and covertly backed Sajjad Lone’s People’s Conference for these seats. However, both parties failed to make any impact, prompting the BJP to seek new allies.
