Jammu, May 14: Residents of the Bishnah constituency are set to receive much-needed respite from unscheduled power cuts as MLA Dr Rajeev Bhagat on Wednesday inaugurated a new 50 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere) transformer at the Grid Station Lalyana. The project amounts to Rs 5.50 crores.
The MLA announced one more transformer worth Rs 9.50 crores for Grid Station Lalyana. This marks a substantial step towards strengthening the power infrastructure in the region.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Lalyana Grid Station, was met with enthusiasm from local residents and officials alike. The newly commissioned 50 MVA transformer will augment the existing 100 MVA transformer already operational at the grid station.
Dr Bhagat announced that another 50 MVA transformer is slated for installation at the same grid station in the near future.
Speaking at the inauguration, the MLA emphasised his commitment to providing a reliable and uninterrupted power supply to all citizens. “The persistent issue of unscheduled electricity cuts in the Bishnah constituency has been a matter of concern, and the installation of these new transformers is a direct response to the needs of the people,” he said.
“Today marks an important day for the people of Bishnah,” Dr Bhagat said. “The inauguration of this 50 MVA transformer, along with the upcoming installation of another, will significantly enhance the power infrastructure in our constituency. This will undoubtedly bring much-needed relief from the inconvenience caused by frequent power interruptions, especially during peak seasons.”
The MLA added that the Rs 5.50 crore investment reflects the government’s dedication to improving basic amenities and ensuring a better quality of life for the residents of Bishnah. He lauded the efforts of the Power Development Department (PDD) in executing the project efficiently.
Executive Engineer of PDD, Rajesh Bhagat, who was also present at the inauguration, provided technical insights into the impact of the new infrastructure. He explained that the addition of the 50 MVA transformer will significantly increase the power handling capacity of the Lalyana Grid Station, allowing it to cater to the growing electricity demands of the Bishnah constituency more effectively.
Prominent members of the area also attended the inauguration ceremony, expressing their gratitude for the initiative. They highlighted the difficulties faced by the residents due to frequent power cuts, impacting daily life, businesses, and the education of students.
The inauguration of the new transformer was seen as a significant step towards addressing these long-standing issues. “This new transformer gives us hope that these issues will finally be resolved. We are thankful to the MLA and the PDD for taking this important step,” said a local leader.
