Srinagar, Dec 20: Director of Bureau of Indian Standards, Jammu & Kashmir Branch office carried out search and seizure in the premises of M/S Farco Jewellers, Hari Singh Street, Lal Chowk, Srinagar on Wednesday.
During the search and seizure operation, jewellery without Hallmark and with fake HUID were seized.
Action is being initiated by BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office against the offenders under BIS Act, 2016.
The action is punishable with imprisonment up to 1 year or a fine not less than Rs. 1 Lakh.
BIS officials also informed that such operations will be carried out frequently due to rampant misuse of BIS Hallmark.
BIS has made mandatory use of HUID on Gold Jewellery w.e.f 01.04.2023.
It has been observed many a time that jewellery with fake HUID or without Hallmark is being sold to common consumers for huge profit.
Therefore, people should ascertain the genuineness of Gold Jewellery before purchase through BIS Care App. “Consumers should make sure that they buy jewellery only from BIS registered jewellers and check HUID in BIS CARE and also take bill of jewellery. General public is also requested that in case they come across any instance of misuse of Hallmark on any gold jewellery, the same may be informed to the Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office, Lane No. 04, SIDCO Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana, Jammu-181133 (J&K).Such complaints can also be made by email at the address [email protected] or [email protected] or by Telephone No. 01923-222690 or through BIS Care App. The source of such information will be kept confidential.”
