BIS JKBO organises First Science Fair at PGSC Kapurthala

Srinagar, Feb 07: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) – Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) on 07 th February 2024 organized 1st Science Fair at Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC) Kapurthala for 13 BIS Standards Club of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Kapurthala District.
More than 350 students and their mentors attended the event. Each Standard Club school also displayed two Science Project Models at the event.
Tilak Raj, Director and Head of BIS Jammu Kashmir Branch has inaugurated the function and in his welcome speech told that we commemorate not just the establishment of an organization (BIS) but celebrate a legacy of commitment, excellence and progress in shaping the standards that define the quality of our nation’s products and services. The aim is to align and update the students with the research culture with various Indian Standards and use of science principles in developing the standards.
Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer of BIS-JKBO has delivered a presentation of BIS activities done in Punjab Region and initiative of BIS for organizing the First of its kind Science fair for connecting the students with various science principle in line with Indian Standards. Sh. Ashish also advised Students were to visit all the Science exhibitions including laser show etc at PGSC Kapurthala to learn the concept of science and use of its principle in developing the products. Further he informed that this kind of fair will be organizing for other standard club students under JKBO jurisdiction.
The stalls have been set up and total 26 models were presented ranges from automatic alarm of water levels, drip irrigation, choosing right standard, innovative BIS Care App model with checking methodology, Benefit of use of ISI marked products vs non-ISI products, hallmarking of gold jewellery, essential marking requirements and checking on that, BIS logo park, LPG cylinders and regulators, Pressure cookers, checking the adulteration of milk and other food products, etc. The stalls had been visited by number of other students who are visiting PGSC, about 3000 students visited the stall and appreciated the science models presented by the students of the BIS Standard Club. All the students also enjoyed various science exhibition installed at PGSC and learn the concept of science.
Sanjiwan Singh Dadhwal and Rakesh Mehta, Resource Person BIS has helped BIS JKBO in organizing the science fair with great zeal and enthusiasm. Sanjiwan Dadhwal also helped students for developments of the Models and projects, in his vote of thanks, he accoladed initiative and thanks all the mentors and students for participation in the science fair.
Further BIS JKBO adjudged the models and awarded 1st prize to Govt. Senior Secondary School Nagal Manjha, Phagwara, 2nd Prize to Govt. Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Basti Sheikh Jalandhar, 3rd Prize to Govt. Senior Secondary Smart School Kartarpur, Jalandhar and Govt. Senior Secondary School MS Gate Amritsar.
