BIS conducts sensitization programmes in Budgam, B’pora

Srinagar, Dec 19: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) Tuesday conducted Gram Panchayat sensitisation programme for Sarpanches and Panchayat representatives of Budgam & Bandipora District.
Speaking on the occasion, Officials from BIS-JKBO, gave the overview of the working of BIS and purpose of holding the sensitisation programme at Shiekh Alam Hall DC Office Budgam. More than 60 participants of Budgam, Solbugh, Narbal, Waterhall & Khansahib blocks of Budgam District attended the said program.
They explained the need of looking for ISI marked products for the betterment of the people on the whole. “There are mandatory and non-mandatory ISI marked products being produced and BIS provides license to these manufacturers who adopt standards of BIS. It is in the best interest of the people in general and country in the particular to opt ISI marked products which helps country to grow,” they added.
Meanwhile in Bandipora district the similar program was conducted at Executive Officer of Municipal Committee Hajin Office, where BIS officials gave detailed information on BIS activities, BIS portals, website and BIS Care App. More than 85 participants of Sumbul, Naidkhay, Ganistan, Hajin & Nowgam blocks of Bandipora district attended the said program.
Officials from BIS also provided information about hallmarking of gold and how one can check the authenticity of hallmarked gold. They also demonstrated the BIS Care App to the members and asked them to download the same from the google play store.
BIS team also emphasised upon reaching out to the people at panchayat levels and making them aware about standardisation. The panchayat secretaries and block development officers were apprised of the procedure to frame specifications for GeM and for ISI marked products in tenders of works being floated by the rural development department.
