Jammu, Sep 29: J&K Congress Working President Raman Bhalla on Friday appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support Congress in the upcoming elections, noting that the BJP has created an “unbearable situation” for all sections of society.
He emphasised the importance of voting and warned against disregarding the duty to cast a vote, stating that every uncast vote is an “indirect benefit” for the BJP.
Speaking during a public meeting, Bhalla said that Congress is the only party that truly listens to the people’s concerns in J&K, and urged party members to support affected individuals to promote economic growth and ensure equitable involvement of the labouring community in economic activities.
Describing labour class people as the backbone of the development and economic progress of the country, he said that the party is committed to their welfare. “UPA government had brought landmark legislation to protect the rights of the labour class in the organised and unorganised sectors. All beneficiary labour laws were applied in J&K during the Congress regime,” he said and directed the party leaders and workers to take care of the aggrieved people.
He further criticised the Government of India, stating it has failed in addressing the legitimate aspirations of the people of J&K. He expressed concern that the ruling BJP has initiated an “onslaught against democracy” in J&K and stressed that a popular government should deliver on development promises while respecting democratic values of the region.
“The ruling BJP was on a mission to disenfranchise J&K people with its selective policies and a coterie of federally-appointed officers, bereft of democratic bearings, calling the shots. The so-called Naya J&K of BJP, besides being low on the democratic mooring is also opposite to the idea of Naya Kashmir propounded by the Congress government,” he said.
Bhalla asked the government officials to provide prompt assistance to individuals with day-to-day problems, emphasising the need for individuals to have access to adequate resources and support. He also called for a magnanimous approach from the government to rescue youth in the region from conflict.
