As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for its assembly elections, scheduled from September 18 to October 1, the Beerwah Assembly constituency is abuzz with anticipation. Residents are vocal about their expectations and the issues they hope will be addressed by their future representative.
Irshad Ahmad Bandy, President of the Federation Beerwah, conveyed to Rising Kashmir that the people of Beerwah are eagerly awaiting the elections. “The Beerwah Assembly constituency is also one of the sub-divisions in the Budgam district, comprising more than 125 villages and four tehsils. We expect our representative to prioritize the improvement of roads connecting Beerwah to Magam, Beerwah to the Budgam district headquarters, Beerwah to Doodhpathri, and Beerwah to Tosamaidan, among others,” Bandy said. He added that enhanced road connectivity would not only benefit the residents but also promote tourism in the Beerwah sub-division. Additionally, Bandy emphasised the longstanding demand for hill status for the district.
Saima Jan, a first-time voter and higher education student, highlighted the challenges faced by many villages in Beerwah. “Many villages in the Beerwah sub-division lack adequate road connectivity and access to drinking water,” Jan said.
She expressed hope that the forthcoming government will prioritize these essential issues. “The future representative must concentrate on the agricultural and horticultural sectors, as many people rely on these sectors for their livelihoods,” Jan added. She also pointed out the lack of infrastructure in schools and Primary Health Centres, stressing the need for development in these areas.
Senior citizen Raja Bano underscored the necessity for government schemes supporting elderly persons and orphans who lack financial support. She also called for the creation of employment opportunities for unemployed youth and orphans within government departments. “The upcoming elected government must address these basic issues, which are a fundamental demand of every person in our constituency,” Bano said.
As the election date draws near, the voices of Beerwah’s residents highlight a pressing call for effective representation and development.
