Srinagar, June 28: After witnessing considerably low temperatures in early this month, the mercury is gradually rising in the valley as summer capital Srinagar recorded a 31.0 degrees Celsius on Saturday, which is the highest temperature of the season so far.
Director Meteorological Centre, Sonam Lotus said that Srinagar had recorded the hottest day of the season so far on Saturday.
“The weather is expected to be mostly dry from June 18 to 23, but a brief spell of showers and thunderstorms, primarily in the late evening, cannot be ruled out. Hot and dry weather is expected to continue, with maximum temperatures in Jammu ranging from 38 to 40 degrees Celsius,” he said.
The highest June temperature in Srinagar in the previous 12 years was 35°C on June 3, 2018. The highest June temperature ever recorded in Srinagar was 37.8°C on June 29, 1978.
As per MeT data, Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest with a high of 20.0 degrees Celsius. Qazigund and Pahalgam recorded the maximum temperature of 30.4°C, and 26.4°C respectively. The maximum temperature in Jammu was recorded at 38.1°C degrees Celsius.
Kupwara, recorded maximum temperatures of 30.6°C. Kulgam ,Pulwamaand Anantnag recorded maximum temperatures of 27.2°C , 29.7°C and 29.2°C respectively.
As per traffic spokesman, Jammu Srinagar NHW remained blocked for several hours due to NAVYUG tunnel closed by tunnel authority. Due to slow movement on NH-44 due to single stretch at Dalwas, Cafeteria and breakdown of 06 HMVs between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.
On Sunday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.
Similarly, on Srinagar-Leh road, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0600 hrs to 1030 hrs.
“Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1300 hrs to 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings,” the spokesman said.
On Mughal road, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides viz. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. However, HMVs shall be allowed from Shopian towards Poonch. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) at 0800 hrs. upto 1600 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut of timings, the spokesman said.
