AS College organizes painting, debate competition to celebrate Vigilance Awareness Week

Srinagar, Nov 05: In a bid to promote vigilance and transparency, Amar Singh College, Cluster University Srinagar, organized Inter College Debate and Painting Competition to Celebrate Vigilance Awareness Week with the theme “Say No to Corruption Commit to the Nation”.
Twelve colleges from Kashmir Division Participated in the competition to discuss and express the importance of participative vigilance and transparent mechanisms in government affairs.
The program commenced with a formal introduction by Prof. Henna Amin, Covenor Debates, Seminars, Workshops and Conferences Committee and Dean Humanities and Liberal Arts, Amar Singh College, who welcomed attendees to the event held at Taseer Hall.
She emphasized upon the theme of ‘No Corruption’ and the significance of the occasion in everyday life.
Prof. (Dr) Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, Principal Amar Singh College and Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges presented the welcome address.
Prof. Aijaz extended a warm welcome to all participants and highlighted the role of educational institutions in fostering awareness about vigilance and transparency in governance.
He focused on the event’s central theme, which was marked by clarity, insight, and a deep understanding of the subject matter.
The program also marked the presence of the special guest for the event,  Ajay Kumar Rao, Additional Superintendent of Police, who was felicitated by the principal for his work and support in the cause of vigilance.
In his special address, Ajay Kumar emphasized the crucial role of vigilance and transparency in government operations. He highlighted the need for a robust and transparent recruitment process that ensures that individuals are selected for public service based on merit and qualifications, rather than nepotism or other corrupt practices.
During Inter-College Debate Competition, students engaged in spirited discussions on “Recruitment through transparent mechanisms and the importance of Participative Vigilance in Government.”
The competition showcased the eloquence and analytical skills of the participating students.
Simultaneously, the “Painting Competition,” also themed around recruitment transparency and participative vigilance, took place in Bukhari Hall, overseen and adjudged by Arshad Souleh, from the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education and Prof. Owais Ahmad from Amar Singh College.
The first position in the Debate Competition was bestowed upon Fadak Aqeel, a student of AAA, Degree College, Bemina. While the second and the third position was bestowed upon Lubna Parvez from Govt. Degree College for Women, M. A Road, and Sadiya Nazeer from Islamia College of Science and Commerce.
Arsalan Tawheed from S.P. College won the first prize in the painting competition, while Mehnaz Altaf, a student of Govt. Degree College for Women, M.A Road, and Gousia Farooq from Amar Singh College were awarded the 2nd and the 3rd positions respectively.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Syed Umra Shah and the event was moderated by Saniya Student of Amar Singh College.
Prof. Syed Umra Shah and Prof. Syed Binish Gilani were the rapporteurs for the event.
