Srinagar, December 25: The Army said on Sunday that its personnel remain watchful along the Line of Control (LoC) and will not allow terrorists to infiltrate into the Kashmir valley.
Major General Ajay Chandpuria, the Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 19 Infantry Division, in a joint press conference of the Army and police in the Hajipura region of Baramulla, said that the Army is vigilant along the LoC and will not allow any infiltration into the Valley.
Responding to the situation in Valley, he stated it is near normal because the number of terrorists and the availability of war-like supplies is at an all-time low.
“The other side is desperate to either infiltrate terrorists or transport war-like supplies,” he claimed. The neighbouring country is bringing militants from across the LoC in an attempt to disrupt the communal peace in the valley, and weaponry and ammunition are being transferred here to target the local population but we will never let it happen, ,” he claimed.
Major General Chandpuria said multiple ambushes and search operations were conducted along the LoC based on intelligence inputs received from multiple intelligence agencies over a two-week period about terrorists’ infiltration attempts and dumping of war-like stores in the Hathlanga area of Rampur Sector in Uri.
He claimed that security personnel have increased anti-terror operations and established a goal of reducing the number of active terrorists in the Valley, and that they have been highly successful in doing so.
He said a search operation was launched in Hathlanga Nala on Friday that lasted eight hours and resulted in the seizure of arms, ammunition, and war-like supplies.
Eight AK-74 rifles, 24 AK-74 rifle magazines, 560 7.62mm AK-74 live ammunition, 12 .30mm Chinese pistols, 24 Chinese pistol magazines, 244 .30mm pistol live ammunition, nine Chinese hand grenades, five Pakistani-origin hand grenadeshave been recovered by security personnel.
He also mentioned 81 balloons with the words “I Love Pakistan” and five synthetic gunny nags with Pakistani markings were also seized.
Major General Chandpuria said that 6-8 operations have been conducted along the LoC in Uri sector this year, with 14 AK weapons, 20 handguns, one M16 rifle, 76 hand grenades, 1226 AK rounds, 484 9mm rounds, 15 kg of heroin, and 10 additional suspected narcotics also recovered
On the occasion, SSP Baramulla, Rayees Muhammad Bhat said this recovery is among the largest interception of war-like stories which has been executed close to the LoC in recent years.
“Balloons, which are typically sent more frequently to the Jammu side, have been sent to the Valley side for the first time. It perhaps points to a kind of attempt to instigate certain propaganda again,” he added.
