The Indian Army has been placed on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) in the remote region of Sunderbani in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day to ensure the safety and security of people.

The anti-infiltration grid has been strengthened with the use of night vision cameras and drones, which are being monitored day and night in the surveillance room at LOC.

Also, jawans are patrolling day and along the LOC to manually check and stop any infiltration bid.

Additionally, Special Dog Squad is used to sanitise the area of suspected planting of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by adversaries .

Search and cordon operations are being carried out to clear the area along the LOC for area dominance and sanitise the area from the presence of any adversary.

Earlier on Sunday, security forces in the union territory were placed on alert and conducted vehicle checks in the Bhimber Gali and Manjakote sectors as part of heightened security measures.

The security forces initiated a search operation following a brief exchange of fire with terrorists in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, according to the police.

On Saturday, two Army soldiers lost their lives in an encounter.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and all ranks of the Indian Army paid tribute on Sunday to Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma, who lost their lives in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on August 10.

“General Upendra Dwivedi COAS and All Ranks of Indian Army salute the supreme sacrifice of Bravehearts Hav Dipak Kumar Yadav an L/Nk Praveen Sharma, who laid down their lives in the line of duty, in Anantnag, J&K,” the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army), said in a post on X.

Recent months have seen a rise in terror attacks in Jammu, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and skirmishes in Doda and Udhampur.

In July, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported to the Lok Sabha that 28 people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-related incidents and 24 counter-terror operations up to July 21 this year.

Last month, Indian Army troops thwarted an attack by the Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district’s Machchal sector.

The skirmish resulted in the death of one Pakistani intruder and the loss of one Indian Army soldier, with four others, including a major-rank officer, sustaining injuries. (ANI)
