Srinagar, Aug 16: In response to recent terror attacks and to counter infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border, the Indian Army has deployed state-of-the-art Armado light vehicles equipped with advanced surveillance equipment and weapons in various districts of the Jammu region.
A senior Army officer told Rising Kashmir that in response to recent terror attacks in the Jammu region, the Army has placed special patrol teams on high alert along the Line of Control, with advancements.
“Army is maintaining a vigilant watch to prevent infiltration. There are some intelligences that terrorist organizations like Lashkar and Jaish are planning to infiltrate terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir. We are alert and ready to foil any such attempt,” he said.
The officer said that they have deployed new armored vehicles, known as ‘Armado Armored Light Specialist Vehicles, to the Army and they are fully bulletproof and equipped with a semi-automatic system for enhanced security.
“Army is conducting continuous border area domination patrols. Additionally, fencing domination patrols are being carried out along the zero line on the LoC to prevent any infiltration from Pakistan,” he said.
Following recent terrorist attacks in Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Udhampur, and Kathua in Jammu, the Army has redeployed units with armored vehicles, including new Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), in these areas.
“These QRTs are strategically positioned in locations with the highest observed terrorist presence. Each QRT team consists of a group of soldiers, ready to respond immediately to any incident on the LoC,” he added.
About special vehicles, the Army officer said that Armado has a seating capacity for six passengers, including the driver, and can be configured to accommodate up to eight.
“It is equipped with a public address (PA) system, GPS, an automatic grenade launcher, an electric winch, and HF/UHF/VHF radios. Additionally, it features a self-cleaning exhaust scavenging and air filtration system designed for extremely dusty climates,” he said.
He further said that Armado is powered by a 3.2-liter turbocharged direct-injection diesel engine, capable of running on NATO-grade diesel. The engine produces 215 hp and 500 Nm of torque, with power delivered to all four wheels through a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
“The Armado boasts a top speed of over 120 kph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 kph in 12 seconds. It also has a payload capacity of 1,000 kg,” he added.
Meanwhile, PRO Defence Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that soldiers maintain rigorous training standards, underscoring the necessity of being prepared for any challenge. This commitment to continuous improvement exemplifies the Indian Army’s dedication to maintaining peak operational readiness, he said.
“Recently technological advancements were also on display, including a smart fence system that enhances border security and surveillance. Newly introduced equipment, including quadcopters, advanced surveillance tools, weapons, and night vision sights, further reflects the Indian Army’s drive to embrace innovation,” he said.
PRO Defense said that recently media personnel were granted a rare opportunity to witness the Indian Army’s unwavering courage and dedication along LoC in the remote regions of Sunderbani and Naushera.
“The visit highlighted the formidable challenges faced by soldiers stationed at the border, who steadfastly defend the nation with determination and selflessness,” he said.
In addition to their duties, the soldiers maintain rigorous training standards, underscoring the necessity of being prepared for any challenge. This commitment to continuous improvement exemplifies the Indian Army’s dedication to maintaining peak operational readiness.
Lt. Col Bartwal said that the Army’s outreach to civilians was equally noteworthy, as they work to build bridges with local communities, ensuring that peace and development reach even the most remote areas.
“By putting their lives on the line to protect the nation’s borders, these soldiers exemplify the values of honor, duty, and sacrifice that form the bedrock of their service. Their unity and shared purpose in safeguarding the country transcend individual differences, serving as an inspiration to all citizens,” he said.
PRO Defence said that in the face of challenges and uncertainties, the Indian Army’s service to the nation stands as a testament to the unbreakable spirit of its soldiers. May we continue to stand alongside them, recognizing their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to securing our nation’s future, he added.
