Samba, July 06: The District Samba Softball Championship reached its thrilling conclusion on Thursday, with Ansh Sharma and Priyanshi Slathia earning the coveted title of Best Athletes of the championship. The tournament, organized under the My Youth My Pride initiative by the J&K Sports Council, witnessed spirited performances from over 160 young players representing registered clubs and schools from the Samba District.
The championship, held at Government Higher Secondary School in Birpur Samba, showcased the rising talent and passion for softball in the region. Waseem Raja Khan, General Secretary of the J&K Softball Association, and Veena Jamwal, Sarpanch of Village Birpur, graced the event as Guests of Honor. The valedictory ceremony saw the presence of esteemed individuals, including Munishwar Singh Jamwal, Retd Deputy Commandant of SSB, Nedan Singh, Social Activist, Suraj Verma, Senior Lecturer, Harvinder Singh, Chief Coach of Jammu & Kashmir Softball, and Harkesh Singh Jasrotia.
Expressing appreciation, Waseem Raja Khan thanked the District Samba Softball Association, particularly Padam Dev Singh, President of the association, Sudhir Singh, Secretary of the association, and Dheeraj Singh Jamwal, Technical Director, for their meticulous organization of the championship. He emphasized the importance of regular club-level tournaments to elevate softball to new heights in Jammu & Kashmir. Khan applauded the initiative to promote the sport at the grassroots level and extended gratitude to Anju Devi, Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Birpur, for providing the necessary facilities and grounds for the championship and regular training.
Surjeet Singh Slathia, Former Minister, commended the outstanding support and dedication of the association, organizers, and technical team in making the event a resounding success. He recognized the contributions of Pradeep Singh, Pawan Kumar, Aman Singh, Sagar Chib, Atul Singh, and Ajay Singh from the technical team.
The Chief Guest expressed gratitude to the technical officials, school and club officials, and media personnel for their invaluable contributions to the championship’s success. He concluded the ceremony by distributing medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up, encouraging them to continue honing their skills in this promising sport.
