JAMMU, Aug 07: The Full Election Commission of India (ECI) will commence a three-day visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir starting tomorrow, to assess the readiness for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the ECI will engage with various stakeholders to gather feedback and review the preparations for conducting the Assembly elections.
The Full Election Commission will hold a meeting with the Director General of Police (DGP) to evaluate the security arrangements aimed at ensuring peaceful and transparent elections in J&K. Additionally, they will meet the Chief Secretary of J&K to discuss overall preparedness.
The Commission’s agenda also includes meetings with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and the District Electoral Officers (DEOs) from all 20 districts of J&K to review the election preparations.
The Full Election Commission will meet representatives from various political parties in Kashmir to solicit suggestions and feedback for conducting free and fair elections. The BJP delegation will be led by Chief Spokesman Sunil Sethi, the Congress delegation by Chief Spokesman Ravinder Sharma, and the CPI(M) delegation by MY Tarigami.
The Supreme Court has mandated that the Assembly elections in J&K must be held before September 30, 2024.
