Srinagar, Sept 01: Sheikh Riyaz, Administrative Officer, Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council declared 22nd J&K Squash Championship 2023 open, here on Friday.
Muzaffar Hussain, (JKAS) Divisional Sports Officer, Kashmir graced the opening ceremony as guest of honour while Mr Zaffar, Technical Officer, J&K Sports Council and Hilal Ahmad, Deputy Manager Gindun Sports Centre, Srinagar were the special guests.
The 5-day long Championship is being organized by J&K Squash Rackets Association in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council at Squash Complex, Gindun Stadium, Rajbagh, Srinagar.
While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Sheikh Riyaz highlighted the steps being taken for development and promotion of Squash sport by Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council and J&K Squash Rackets Association.
He said from the last few years Squash is making inroads in every nook and corner of the Union Territory and taking great height in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that newly constructed Squash courts uplift the Sport of Squash in the Valley.
He said involvement of young players in sports and games will help youth not to fall prey to drugs and other allied social shun evils.
The chief guest also lauded the efforts of the Secretary Sports Council for her great support for uplifting sports and games in Jammu & Kashmir.
428 players from 11 districts of UT J&K are participating in Under-11 (boys & girls), Under-13 (boys & girls), Under-15 (boys & girls), Under-19 (boys & girls), Under-21 (boys & girls), Senior Men & Women & Men’s over 35 categories.
The Championship, being sponsored by J&K Sports Council, will conclude on September 5, 2023.
Deputy Manager, Gindun Stadium and his team played a pivotal role in making the Championship a grand success.
