June 26: The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for the Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar, conducted a visit to Anantnag district in South Kashmir to assess the security measures implemented for the smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath ji Yatra (SANJY-2023).
Recognizing the significance of SANJY and the security challenges associated with it, the purpose of ADGP Kashmir’s visit was to evaluate the preparations and provide necessary guidance to the officers involved.
The meeting, which witnessed the presence of high-ranking officials including GoC Victor Force, IG CRPF, IG BSF, Sector commanders, DIG SKR Anantnag, DIG CRPF Awantipora, DIG CRPF Anantnag, DIG ITBP, SSP Anantnag, SSP Kulgam, SSP Awantipora, and CO NDRF, focused on the comprehensive report submitted by a joint team responsible for the yatra track. The ADGP directed all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSsP) and Commanding Officers (COs) of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to conduct mock drills and joint briefings on-site.
With utmost priority given to public safety, Vijay Kumar emphasized the importance of safeguarding both the pilgrims and the general public throughout the Yatra. He directed the officers to take all necessary measures to ensure a secure and hassle-free experience for the pilgrims. During the meeting, the ADGP Kashmir stressed the need for close coordination and better synergy among the officers to ensure the safety of the general public.
In-depth discussions were held regarding the security of the routes designated for the pilgrims, with the officers entrusted to strengthen the security grid along the National Highway, particularly at vulnerable points, to avert any potential incidents. Furthermore, the officers were instructed to intensify surveillance efforts and gather intelligence inputs to counteract possible terror threats. Increased deployment of motor vehicle checkpoints (MVCP) and enhanced night patrolling along the NHW were also emphasized. Several Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were reviewed, and it was decided to deploy Anti-Drone equipment provided by the Army at sensitive yatra camps and locations.
To ensure effective vigilance, the ADGP Kashmir advised the officers to utilize modern technology drone monitoring systems within their respective jurisdictions. Additionally, they were directed to gather actionable intelligence information concerning terrorists and their associates. The ADGP also emphasized the importance of closely monitoring and taking legal action against rumour mongers who spread false and misleading news on social media platforms to incite panic among the masses. Furthermore, he stressed the need for officers to manage alternative routes at congested junctions to facilitate smooth movement for commuters and the convenience of the general public.
At the outset of the meeting, the ADGP Kashmir received a briefing from the officers regarding the security arrangements implemented for the safe and seamless conduct of the Yatra. He commended the joint efforts made by the Police and security forces, expressing confidence in their ability to effectively handle any security challenges. The functioning of established joint control rooms, aimed at facilitating the pilgrims, was also discussed. The ADGP directed all officers to ensure minimum inconvenience to the general public during the yatra.
