Srinagar, June 26: Jammu, June 26 : The Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbag Singh, presided over a joint meeting of Jammu Zone Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) officers at the Police Control Room in Jammu.
The purpose of the meeting was to assess the security arrangements and deployment plans for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in the Jammu Zone.
The meeting was attended in person by notable officials including ADGP Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh, IGP CRPF Jammu sector M C Laddha, IGP Armed/IRP Jammu M N Tiwari, DIG Armed Jammu Sarah Rizvi, DIG IRP Jammu Nisha Nathyal, DIG Traffic Jammu Shridhar Patil, DIG BSF Chiter Pal, SsSP of district Jammu, PCR Jammu, Security Jammu, Crime Branch Jammu, CID SB & CI Jammu, Operations Jammu, Traffic NHW and APCR Jammu. Additionally, representatives from Army 16 Crops and 26 Div., SSB, and CISF were also present. DIG DKR Range Shri Sunil Gupta, DIG Udhampur Reasi Range M Suleiman Choudhary, District SsSP of Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban participated in the meeting via video conferencing.
Addressing the attendees, the DGP stressed the critical importance of close coordination among all officers to ensure a safe and incident-free yatra. He emphasized that sectoral officers and Police Control Rooms (PCRs) must have up-to-date information about the availability and location of special teams such as Drone Units, Bomb Disposal (BD) squads, Dog squads, and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to enable their immediate deployment in case of emergencies. He reiterated the need for each deputed officer to be fully aware of their roles and responsibilities during the pilgrimage.
The DGP directed the officers to ensure effective and efficient deployment at Yatri Niwas Jammu, the National Highway, and other important locations to provide a secure environment for the pilgrims. He specifically instructed the use of drones and other necessary tools for monitoring the security of the yatris. The DGP emphasized strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued for the yatra and called for the installation of hoardings along the yatra route, displaying police contact numbers for easy assistance to any yatri in need. He further instructed officers to issue SOPs to field officers, conduct mock drills as recommended, and prepare for the upcoming task. Adequate manpower deployment at railway stations and airports to assist traveling pilgrims was also highlighted.
Regarding vehicular traffic, the DGP emphasized the importance of maintaining lane discipline to prevent unnecessary congestion. He directed that all traffic police personnel involved in traffic management should be equipped with wireless communication devices to facilitate real-time coordination. Additionally, any traffic congestion on the National Highway should be promptly communicated to all beat officers to ensure appropriate measures are taken. The DGP emphasized the use of cameras and other tools to monitor vehicular movement.
The officers were instructed to formulate contingency plans with a focus on disaster management and swift response mechanisms to handle any untoward situation during the yatra. The DGP also emphasized the installation of CCTV cameras at critical locations, including langars (community kitchens), eateries, and petrol pumps, to closely monitor the movement of potential suspects.
He emphasized that the incharge Commander should be the first respondent in any incident and stressed the importance of prompt action plans and effective handling of situations.
During the meeting, specific measures were discussed to ensure rapid and unhindered movement of yatris. These measures included the installation of X-ray scanning at appropriate locations, highway patrolling, establishment of special/model nakas (checkpoints), formation of special assistance teams for yatris, and supervision and monitoring of yatris’ movement through joint control rooms.
The ADGP Jammu briefed the DGP about the security measures being implemented for the smooth and safe conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. Additionally, the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, and Ramban districts provided detailed information about the arrangements formulated in their respective districts and on the National Highway.
Subsequently, the DGP J&K visited the Base Camp at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu to personally assess the security deployments, logistical facilities for yatris, and traffic arrangements for vehicle parking during the Shri Amarnath Yatra. Accompanied by ADGP Jammu Zone, IG CRPF Jammu sector, and other senior police and CAPFs officers, he inspected the complex and the parking area for yatri vehicles.
The DGP emphasized the completion and finalization of all necessary arrangements on the ground for camp security. He further stressed the importance of regular monitoring of security and traffic plans by senior officers. The DGP issued directives for area domination around the Base Camp and emphasized day and night patrolling to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the yatra.
